2015 Geodynamics Program

Dynamics of Continental and Seafloor Hydrothermal Systems

This year's seminar series is focused on the dynamic behavior of hydrothermal processes in continental and submarine settings.  Some of the topics we will address include:

  • The response of hydrothermal systems to episodic perturbations from earthquakes, and the role of fluids in fault zone mechanics
  • The poroelastic behavior of hydrothermal systems and the response to periodic perturbations from ocean and earth tides and atmospheric processes
  • The generation of mineral deposits
  • Multi-phase flow, geysers, and hydrothermal explosions
  • Interactions between hydrothermal systems and biological organisms
